Abstract:
A new Guar gum based resin containing 2, 4-dihydroxybenzoic acid
group has been synthesized and their Adsorption behavior for
toxic metal ions has been investigated by batch and column
experiments. 2, 4-dihydroxybenzoic acid group has been
incorporated on to guar gum by modified poraths method of
functionalisation of polysaccharides. The Guar gum 2, 4-dihydroxybenzoic
acid [GDHBA] resin can selectively separate of trace toxic metal
ions which are contained in Industrial waste water. The GDHBA
resin was characterized on the basis of ion exchange capacity,
elemental analysis, pH titration, FT-IR spectra and thermal
analysis (TGA). The chemically modified GDHBA ion exchanger
resin has been used for removal and preconcentration of Zn (II),
Cd (II), Fe (II), Pb (II), and Cu (II) ions in aqueous solutions
and effluent of Laxmi Steel Industry, Jodhpur. The selectivity
of this material varied depending upon its composition and the
composition of the eluting solvent. The large differences in Kd
values of heavy metal ions at different pH, the removal and
recovery of metal ions from their aqueous solutions and effluent
of Laxmi Steel Industry, Jodhpur has been systematically
studied.
