Abstract:
Reaction between 3-formylsalicylic acid (FSA) and
4,5-dichloro-1,2-phenylenediamine (CPH), yields a hexadentate
Schiff base ligand (H4fsacph) with N2O4
donor frame of which the inner compartment is N2O2
and the outer is O2O2 type. The ligand has
been identified and its molecular weight has been estimated from
its mass and TGA spectra. The complexation of the ligand with
three divalent transition metals; Co, Ni, and Cu, has been
investigated spectrophotometrically in solution. A marked
sensitivity toward the three metals has been observed as
indicated from quantitative determination of these ions in high
diluted solutions. The mole–ratio and slope–ratio methods showed
that these complexes are 1:1 type of complexes (MH2fsacph).
