ABSTRACT
A quinazoline
carbothiohydrazide based Schiff base ligand
1-(6-bromo-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)ethylidene)-2-methyl-4-oxoquinazoline-3(4H)-carbothiohydrazide
[BOCEMOQC] was prepared. The complexes were prepared by reacting the
ligand [BOCEMOQC] and the metal chlorides of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II),
Mn(II), Fe(III), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) in ethanol to get a
series of mononuclear complexes. The complexes were characterized by
elemental analyses, molar conductivity measurements, magnetic
susceptibility, electronic, IR, 1H NMR, EPR, powder X-ray
diffraction and thermal studies. On the basis of spectral studies
Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II) and Fe(III), have assigned
octahedral geometry, where the others of Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II)
complexes have assigned square pyramidal geometry. The antibacterial
and antifungal activity of the ligand and its metal complexes have
been investigated, the complexes were found to have higher
antimicrobial activity than the parent Schiff base ligand
[BOCEMOQC].
Key words: Quinazoline, Schiff
base, Spectral studies and Antimicrobial activity.
