Synthesis, Spectral Characterization and Biological Screening of
Some 2-Amino Pyridines

ABSTRACT
2-aminocyano pyridines were
synthesized by reacting different chalcones with malonitrile and
ammonium acetate in presence of ethanol. The initial materials,
chalcones, were synthesized by mixing an aqueous solution of NaOH,
acetophenone and aromatic aldehydes in ethanol. Purity of all the
intermediate and titled compounds were checked by Thinlayer
Chromatogfaphy (TLC) and the structure elucidation of each compound
was characterized by 1H NMR, IR spectral data and elemental analysis
results. All the synthesized compounds were also screened for their
anti-inflammatory activity by carrageenan induced rat paw edema
method. All synthesized compounds and the standard drug were taken
in a dose of 20 mg/kg of body weight. Some of the synthesized
compounds showed good anti-inflammatory activity when compared to
standard drug indomethacin.
